Thomas Ruff (born 10 February 1958) is a German photographer who lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Ruff was known for his use of flash in a studio and using soft boxes to light up the scene for the portraits he took. The soft boxes are a bigger and sometimes easier way to difuse flash in photos and can be set up on a certain angle if needed like on the first photo were you can tell the light from the soft box is hitting the right hand side of the man face. A filler light on low would also help to lighten up a darker spot on the face.
