Week 7 - Gels
Artist Research week 6 - Tina Barney
Tina Barney (born 1945, New York City) is an American artist photographer best known for her large-scale, color portraits of her family and close friends, many of whom are well-to-do denizens.
Tina used flash and soft boxes in these works, you can tell by the first and second photos, the light from the flash can be harsh in some lights so using a soft box with her flash cuts the light in the photos to still light up the photos but have a softer light.like in the left one were the soft box would of been positioned on the left hand side of the subject.

Artist Reseach week 6 - Thomas Ruff
Thomas Ruff (born 10 February 1958) is a German photographer who lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Ruff was known for his use of flash in a studio and using soft boxes to light up the scene for the portraits he took. The soft boxes are a bigger and sometimes easier way to difuse flash in photos and can be set up on a certain angle if needed like on the first photo were you can tell the light from the soft box is hitting the right hand side of the man face. A filler light on low would also help to lighten up a darker spot on the face.
Artist Research week 6 - Juergen Teller
Jürgen Teller (born January 28, 1964) is a German artist and fine-art and fashion photographer.
Teller was known for his use of flash and difusers. The first photo above is an example, were he would of used a speed light and pointed it directly on the dog and flowers; but by using a difuser he can cut the light that flashes and while lighting up the subjects he can also keep the back of the photo quite dark like a flash would do by itself. Same with the second photo were he would of pointed it just above the flowers.
Artist Research week 6 - Martin Parr
Martin Parr (born 23 May 1952) is a British documentary photographer, photojournalist and photobook collector. He is known for his photographic projects that take an intimate, satirical and anthropological look at aspects of modern life, in particular documenting the social classes of England, and more broadly the wealth of the Western world.
Martin Parr was known for his work with flash and diffuses. The first photo is an example of his work with a speed light, the photo would maybe overexpose the people in front but by using a diffuser pointed at the people cuts half the light from the flash but didnt change the dark back ground. Same kinda thing in the third photo, were he would of difused the light hitting the young mother and baby.

Photo 1 out of 3 is underexposing the background. i started by taking off a normal photo without the flash and had my shutter on 1/60.
Photo 2 out of 3 is with the flash on and the same Shutter, 1/60.
Photo 3 out of 3 i changed the shutter to 1/200 do underexpose the baclground.
Photo 1 out of 3 was a flash and blur technique were we set our shutter speed to 1'' . In this photo the subject was spinning on the spot.
Photo 3 out of 3 was also a flash and blur. My shutter speed did not change but my subject walked a little faster causing a trail behind her.
F/8.0 Shutter: 1/60 ISO: 100 Photo1 out of 4. I had to properly expose the background using the meter in my camera, This was taken with out flash.
Photo 2 out of 4 was the same as the first photo, but with my subject in the frame. I took the photo without touching the changes i made to expose the background.
Photo 3 out of 4 is using the speed light and pointed directly at my subject, I did not change any of my settings in this photo.
Photo 4 out of 4 was using the speed light but i pointed it at the roof above me, I did not change any of my settings in this photo.
For this photo i overexposed the background with the speed light and had it facing just above my subjects head.
Photo 1 out of 2 is not using the half moon defuser and no flash, we can see that one half of the subject face is quite dark.
Photo 2 out of 2 was using flash and the half moon defuser. My subjects left side of her face is brighter but not too overexposed.
