DT2 - Kingsize Studios visit week 2

Kingsize specialises in problem solving for the professional photographer, & film maker, whether it be studio or location shoots anywhere in NZ or around the world. We regularly ship gear to the South Island or overseas.

Kingsize also has studios that you can book and use for a number of shoots, They also lend out gear and accessories to photographers and other.

One of the photographers mentioned was Aaron Mclean, whos work 'Abundance' caught my eye. This work stood out to cause they were simple everyday things you find lying around in the garden and he captures the detail in the seeds from so close, with the use of a macro lens. I also like the way he uses the black background to make the objects stand out. I couldnt find any specific information about this work, but my interpretation is the idea that seeds can continue to spread even after a plant has died,  that seeds can continue to spread into an abundance of seeds.

He used a variety of close crops and some photos fill the frame more than others, He also uses a range of narrow and medium DOF.

From This Research

From this research i found Damon Clarke, who's also a macrophotograher. Damon Clarke uses macrophotography to reveal the beauty and intricate details of nature for everyone to enjoy. He is recognized internationally for his work which is on display in private, corporate and hospitality collections throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. As he reveals "I try to capture poignancy and gesture in my subjects. I want to connect people to the small world that is all around us and remind them of the smaller beauty that is so often missed. I try to bring happiness, awe or quiet contemplation into peoples lives."

Damon's work consists of close crops and narrow DOF's. Unlike Aaron's work, Damon loves to capture bright and happy colours. He said that ambiant light is important to his photos, along with shapes and form (shape of flowers, were to postion the images in the frame).

Response

f/7.1 Shutter 1/80 ISO6400

i like how this photo came out cause the colours remind me of Damon Clarks work above, but cause of the high ISO the photo came out kinda noisy which i ont like too much. I once again used a tungsten lamp and changed my settings from AWB to Tungsten. I tried to capture some detail and stuff from the inside of the flower as well.

f/7.1  Shutter1/60 ISO6400

I like how this photo has a narrow DOF and how i captured some detail from the centre of the flower, I used a high ISO again cause it was late in the evening so there wasnt much sun left so i used the tungsten lamp to create enough light.

f/8.0 Shutter1/160 ISO6400

I like how this photo came out with its detail in the pollen stems but i could of brightened up the image so that you could see the colours and petals  more clear but cause of the high ISO i dont want to brighten it to much cause then the noise will be more visible.

f/3.5 Shutter1/100 ISO6400

I really like how this photo came out and how it has a narrow DOF and has a close resemblance to another one of Clarks images. I like the colour but found the photo was too soft and some close bits were blurred when i didnt want them to be.

f/9.0 Shutter1/100 ISO6400

I experimented with dropping some water onto this flower and taking a close up then, i like the colour that came out and how you can see detail in both the water drop and the petals. I used a higher Aperture so that most of the image could be in focus but still had a little trouble with the macro lens.
